| For people with slow
or unreliable network connections
(usually modems) the Windows binary distribution is
available in three parts. The parts can be unpacked
with Winzip.
Winzip expects each part on a separate floppy disk. Each part has the same file name, so all three cannot be downloaded to the same directory on hard disk. The following instructions show how to download and unpack successfully in a temporary directory C:\a4zip\. Alternative hard disk locations should also work. mkdir c:\a4zip mkdir c:\a4zip\disk1 mkdir c:\a4zip\disk2 mkdir c:\a4zip\disk3 Download a409part1 to c:\a4zip\part1. Download a409part2 to c:\a4zip\part2. Download a409part3 to c:\a4zip\part3. or get these same files using anonymous ftp . Label a disk "disk1" with a pencil and stick this disk in a: copy c:\a4zip\disk1\data.zip a:\ Take disk1 out of a: Label a disk "disk2"

Open disk3's data.zip with winzip. Push the extract button. Turn the option to use subfolder names ON. Pick a spot on the hard drive to install ascend. C:\ is as good as any. Insert disk1, disk2, disk3 when Winzip asks for them. Ignore winzip questions about floppy labels not matching what it expects. Start
c:\a4090\ascend4\bin\ascopt4.exe from the file Explorer |
