The ASCEND IIIc compiler is Copyrighted 1988-1994 by Thomas Guthrie Epperly and the ASCEND IV compiler is Copyrighted 1994-1998 by Carnegie Mellon University.

The authors of ASCEND IIIc and ASCEND IV license it publically according to the terms of the GNU Public License (GPL), wholeheartedly believing that this is the only sensible way to ensure rapid and widespread progress in the researches for which ASCEND can serve as a foundation.

The authors of ASCEND make no warranty of any kind regarding the ASCEND IV software, as specified at the END of the ASCEND IV version of the GPL. The ASCEND IV GPL is substantially the same as the generic GPL, differing only in that appropriate ASCEND-specific names and noun-phrases have been substituted, the preamble bypassed. COPYING ASCEND is subject to the GPL.
